Exposure: Live at sea’s main focus was on the Merchant Navy and the contemporary maritime sector showcasing a range of photographs of life at sea, all taken by maritime workers. The photos ranged from large-scale panoramic to the intensely intimate, from the thought-provoking to the comedic. By coincidence, we started to work on this exhibition just before the first lockdown and carried on for the most part during lockdown. The display was enhanced with an immersive AV title of waves and a projection time laps of a journey on a cargo ship. The layout had to allow for a larger visitor flow to accommodate social distancing. The key design features within the exhibition were the use of material and colour references found on board of ships such as rusty metal panels and colours used in control rooms.
